My Mission

Lemony Snicket once said “A good library is never too neat, or too dusty, because somebody will always be in it, taking books off the shelves and staying up late reading them.” Sadly, my personal bookshelf has become far too neat and dusty, which means that I need to rectify this problem as soon as possible. So, I have come up with a solution and also a bit of a journey, hopefully. I plan to read all of the books in my bookshelves that I have not read all of the way through yet.
Now, this may sound a little bit strange to some people that I have not yet read all of the books I own, but I got probably all of the ones I have not read yet as gifts. It will be quite an interesting adventure of sorts since many of them I received when i was much younger than I am currently.
I have partly decided to partake in this adventure since:
1) I will probably move house soon and books weigh a lot and take up a decent amount of space since I have a generous amount of them.
2) I will probably be downsizing, so unread books will probably have to go anyways.
3) I have chose to partake in this endeavor now, because I find during the holidays is when books and the most needed and appreciated. Any books that I for whatever reason I decided are not worth my time or space will be donated right before the winter holidays, I hope.
4) I have had the same physical books that I currently own for over two years now, since my shelves are completely full. So it is time to make room for some new ones, but only a limited number since I am downsizing. Just as a point of reference, my bookcases have multiple layers of books in front of one another so there is no way to see, or retrieve the books in the very back due to the shelf size.
5) I have really been itching lately to pick up some new physical books. So I am going to in a sense ‘shop my stash’ to hopefully diminish that urge, or at least make room for any new arrivals. Right now I have a very strict ‘one in, one out policy’ and no books have come out in quite a while.
6) I now have some great ideas for my blog posts, including book reviews and recommendations for the books I will be reading. Since I am eclectic reader and the books span years of my life there should be a great deal of variety, also they were gifts, so who knows what people thought that I would like.
Have you ever ‘shopped your stash’? This will be a first for me so any tips or helpful ideas would be helpful.

Reading Days

Hello,

So today I have started reading “Googled” by Ken Auletta. I am only a few pages in, but maybe next week I will have a review for it. This coming week I have lots of time to read, so maybe I will read enough to suffice for my reviews and it can become an actual weekly occurrence rather than a mere pipe dream.

All my best,

Jackie

Day 3 (books)

As a precursor to my blog, I have been examining the blogs of others, and it seems, to me at least that the successful ones have some sort of theme to them rather than simple-minded ramblings, so I have (for the time being) decided on a general topic. I, for one am a voracious reader and I need to read more, so after today, I have decided that every Friday there will be a review of the book I read that week. Now, it is relatively easy for me to get through a book per week, but living in the world I realize that I might get through a whole book every week. So Fridays will still be a review, but they may not be a review of a whole book, rather they may be bits and pieces of books. If you have any suggestions I would be glad to hear them, unfortunately the library is slightly hard to get to from where I am currently, but I shall try. Right now, though happens to be a point where I have a lot of time and a library in close proximity, so, for now at least Fridays will be a review of a whole book and I will build up my reserves of books for upcoming Fridays after that.

I read everything, except romance, so any category other than that will probably show up at least once. I have only recently began to read a variety of non-fiction books, so my knowledge of those is rather limited, but I adore most of the fiction and non-fiction sections (except for those pesky romances).

Hoping this blog will last at least until the review of book 1,

Jackie
